Radio5Live Interview : Rape conviction rates lowest for young men

Sharing is caring!

I recently submitted a Freedom of Information request to the Crown Prosecution Service.  I was interested in information on the conviction rates of rape trials.

The findings in the CPS response are damning. Amongst the statistics, we found that the conviction rate last year in rape only trials involving 18 to 24-year-olds was 32%.  However, the number of successful prosecutions against men aged 25 to 59 was 46%, in the same time period.

I went on BBC Radio5Live to discuss these findings and address the issue of rape myths. Myths such as rape only occurs if a victim has injuries. It is crucial we dispel rape myths and change wider public attitudes so that everyone can have faith in the justice system.
