Stockport MP Ann Coffey visited Our Lady’s Catholic Primary school in Edgeley as part of UK Parliament Week 2017 (13 – 19th November). This year over 900 primary schools throughout the country took part in UK Parliament Week, which is now in its seventh year.
At Our Lady’s the whole school got involved in a week-long programme of activities which brought the children’s learning about Parliament and democracy alive. Activities included a mock election run by the Year 4 children (aged 8-9) with four parties standing and all the children voting for their chosen team.
Ann’s visit was a highlight. She met children from all the year groups and ended with a sparkling question and answer session with the junior children in the hall.
Ann Coffey said:
“I was so impressed by the involvement of the whole school in UK Parliament Week, and the fantastic display of artwork featuring the Year 4 election, the infants’ paintings of Big Ben and much more. Children at Our Lady’s have a real interest in finding out about our democratic system.”
