Supporting homeless people is very much on people’s minds as winter sets in, and in Stockport I am concerned to see a rise in the numbers of people sleeping rough in the town centre. We are fortunate to have the Wellspring which offers help- with the generous support of local people and businesses – for example through the Rucksack Project which encourages donations of rucksacks and warm winter clothing.
However it is sometimes hard to be successful in getting long term rough sleepers off the streets for a number of reasons.
This month I was delighted to join the President of Childline, Dame Esther Rantzen and the CEO of the NSPCC, Peter Wanless at a Parliamentary event to celebrate the 30th birthday of Childline. I also met some of the supporters and volunteers who help make the 24hours a day, 365 days a year service possible.
CTZN is a new mobile-based social media platform for young people aged 13 to 18. The app has been designed in partnership with Greater Manchester police and offers a safe social network connecting young people with great activities and recognising their achievements.
